History of Saint Martin Island

Millennia ago, the island used to be an extension of the Teknaf peninsula, but portion of this peninsula later got submerged and thus the southernmost part of the aforementioned peninsula became an island, and was disconnected from the Bangladesh mainland. The island was first settled in the 18th century by Arabian merchants, who named it “Jazira”. During British occupation the island was named after the then Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mr. Martin as St. Martin Island. Local names of the island are “Narikel Jinjira” which means “Coconut Island”, and “Daruchini Dwip” which means “Cinnamon Island”. It is the only coral island in Bangladesh.

Way to go to Saint Martin Island:

If you want to go to Saint Martin, you have to take a bus from Dhaka to Teknaf. From Teknaf take a ship to Saint Martin Island. Buses regularly depart from Dhaka to Teknaf at night and reach Teknaf early in the morning. Many ships leave Teknaf at 9:30 am for St. Martin.

The ship will leave Teknaf at 9:30 AM for St. Martin. And you will reach the pier in St. Martin between 11:30 and 11:45.

Hotel :

You can book nearby resorts or hotels from St. Martin Jetty Ghat. Be sure to buy it. Or you can book the hotel in advance from Booking.com or GoZayaan.

How to get around in Saint Martin :

Day one : Check up at the hotel in St. Martin, freshen up and head to the main beach to enjoy. In Main Beach you can roam, bathe, play sports. After eating and drinking, take rest at the resort or hotel.

Then walk from the main beach to the western beach. You can enjoy the sunset there.

Then there are barbeque parties at night in various places in St. Martin where you can participate. A variety of Bay of Bengal fish is barbecued.

At night, after the barbeque party, you can wander around the main beach. You can sit next to the main beach and listen to the roar of the sea. The roar is very impressive. The roar of the sea under the open sky will mesmerize you.

Day two :  Wake up in the morning and have breakfast. You can rent a bicycle in St. Martin to see the inside of St. Martin. St. Martin’s full touch of nature inside. On the way you can see coconut trees and different types of trees. The plants in St. Maarten will impress you a lot.

After all the sight-seeing, you can head back to Main Beach and East Beach for fun and games at noon. Return to the resort or hotel from Main Beach or East Beach and have lunch. At lunch you will find many types of sea fish.

Then you can visit Saint Martin’s North Beach, Galachipa, Silent Beach, Daruchini Dwip, Coral Island by bicycle at very low cost.

At night, after the barbeque party, you can wander around the main beach. You can sit next to the main beach and listen to the roar of the sea. The roar is very impressive. The roar of the sea under the open sky will mesmerize you.

Day three :  Today you can leave St. Martin is a very famous tourist place on the island. Small speedboats or tollers go to Chera Island from St. Martin Jetty. You can’t go to Chera Island whenever you want, you have to go in the morning to go to Chera Island. Because Chera Island has many tides which are very dangerous. You can see the enchanting environment of Chera Island. All around you are sea and ocean. As far as the eye can see only sea blue water. A breathtaking island.

When is the perfect time to visit in Saint Martin Island :

Between November and February, one can get the best time for visiting here. Undoubtedly, this is the foremost tourist season. Between March and July, a tourist must keep his eyes on the forecast intensely; as cyclone can beat during these times. March to July is tourist off season.
