Jonker Street

 Known as the heart of Malacca’s Chinatown, Jonker Street is famous for its vibrant night market, antique shops, and street food.
This bustling street is the perfect place to experience Malacca’s unique blend of cultures. On weekends, it transforms into a lively night market offering local delicacies like chicken rice balls, Nyonya laksa, and cendol. Visitors can also find unique souvenirs, traditional crafts, and a mix of colonial and Peranakan architecture

A Famosa Fort

One of the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Southeast Asia, A Famosa showcases Malacca’s colonial past.
Built by the Portuguese in 1511, this fort once symbolized European dominance in the region. While much of it has been lost to time, the iconic Porta de Santiago gate still stands, drawing history enthusiasts. It offers stunning photo opportunities and a glimpse into Malacca’s rich past.

Taking a walking a tour of the city is a good option and can be done either self guided using a map from your hotel or organised via the tourist centre (free) – these start at around 8.30am to avoid the heat, highlights will include: Jonker Street / Jonker Walk, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple – Malaysia’s oldest Chinese temple, The Stadhuys, Dutch Square & St Pauls Church, Porta de Santiago, Malacca Sultanate Palace and the Proclamation of Independence Memorial.

The Stadthuys

A bright red building showcasing Dutch colonial architecture, housing a history and ethnography museum.
Built in 1650, the Stadthuys is believed to be the oldest Dutch building in Southeast Asia. This landmark is famous for its distinct red façade and surrounding colonial buildings. Inside, the museum exhibits Malacca’s history, from the Malay Sultanate to the Portuguese and Dutch eras.

Melaka River
